Penclawdd Church, dedicated to St. Gwynour, opened for service on December 17th 1850 and stands in a remote uplands area of Penclawdd known as Llanyrnewydd (translates as 'new church/village). Its chancel was enlarged in 1926, during which time a vestry and organ chamber were also added to the building.
Although the church itself is not of any great antiquity, the site upon which it was built has been occupied since medieval times and it is interesting to note that many of the graves in its churchyard predate the church by many years.
